The The Chainman Shale Fossil Locality, Inyo Mountains, California

The view is southwest across the fossil locality in the Upper Mississippian Chainman Shale; common to abundant, moderately well-preserved ammonoids, pelecypods, terrestrial plants, and even shark teeth can be found along the bedding planes of the dark gray to black, often fissile, slightly metamorphosed shales.
