Here is a look roughly southeastward in Last Chance Canyon to the typcially rugged landscape developed in the tan-brownish-white volcanic tuffs of the oldest portions of late Middle Miocene DoveSpring Formation; blackiish-red rocks covering the hills in the distance belong to Pleistocene-age (about one million years old) olivine basalt flows called the Black Mountain Basalt.
