A display inside the Red RockCanyon State Park Visitor Center that depicts actual fossil mammal bones collected from outcrops of the late Miocene Dove Spring Formation at Red Rock Canyon State Park,California: at extreme right is the lower jaw, with a complememt of teeth, of a giant oreodont , called scientifically Merychyus major major (identified by Dr. Bruce Lander); in the middle are articulated lower foot bones from a camel; and at left are the articulated lower foot bones of a horse.
