Ammonite From Ammonite Canyon, Nevada

An ammonite still resting on its limestone matrix--Psiloceras polymorphum--from the oldest limestone layers of the lower Jurassic Sunrise Formation, Ammonite Canyon, Nevada. The extinct cephalopod derives from the earliest sedimentary deposits of Hettangian Stage of the Jurassic Period, around 198 million years old.
