Outcrops of the Lower Cambrian Harkless Formation in the Gold Point fossil region. The lower slopes are composed of rather recessive-weathering greenish shales and quartzites, while more resistant carbonate layers cap the ridges. Throughout Esmeralda County and neighboring northern Inyo County, California, the Harkless Formation yields important suites of Early Cambrian trilobites, archeocyathids, salterella and ichnofossils (annelid and arthropod tracks and trails). |
