Paleobotanists Howard Schorn and Dr. Diane Erwin examine on a map one of the fossil localities I had plotted in the Middle Eocene Ione Formation, Ione Basin, Amador County, California. This was but one of many brief stops along the trail to the fossil localities. Each stop afforded Howard and Diane an opportunity to inspect the many individual fossil spots and to compare their respective geographic positions with the GPS plottings on a map I had provided them.
