Fossil bone fragments/chips weather out of the late Middle Miocene Dove Spring Formation in the El Paso Mountains, Red Rock Canyon State Park, California. This is a very typical find of fossil bones in the badlands district of the El Paso Mountains--identifiable vertebrate fossils, such as complete teeth, jaws, and various foot bones are rarely seen at the surface any longer due to intensive, repeated collecting by scientific crews from the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, which houses an exhaustive research collection of vertebrate remains from the Red Rock Canyon district. |
