A Once-Popular Locality

Middle Miocene Sharktooth Hill Bone Bed

Kern County, California

This was once a popular spot for folks to come on in and collect all the shark teeth and miscellaneous marine mammal bones they wanted from the Middle Miocene Round Mountain Silt Member of the Temblor Formation. Where to look for the paleontological material was not difficult to figure out; the unmistakable World War I infantry-style trench along the hillside certainly marks the spot.
