Fossil Spruce Winged Seed From Aldrich Hill, Nevada

A fossil winged seed from a species of spruce called Picea sonomensis, whose seeds are similar to the living Brewer spruce (also called the weeping spruce) Picea breweriana now native to the Klamath region of northwestern California and adjacent Oregon; in actual size, the seed is 12mm long. Collected from the middle Miocene Aldrich Station Formation, Nevada.
